Strategic plan for tourism and city promotion in Sint-Niklaas
January will be the start of a new strategic plan for tourism and city promotion for the city of Sint-Niklaas. The purpose of this plan is to maintain and improve the competitive position of Sint-Niklaas on the tourism market.
Sint-Niklaas is an important tourist and recreational destination. The city is especially known for the Grand Place, Sinterklaas and Mercator, for major events such as the Peace Festival and hot air balloon festival and for its shopping.
The city council has been working for several years on an identity and core strengthening policy and decided to implement it further in the field of tourism. The purpose of this plan is to maintain and improve the competitive position of Sint-Niklaas on the tourism market.
The city wants to get an answer to following key-questions:
- How to approach the development of the city as a tourist attraction in and outside the Waasland region?
-
Which markets of Sint-Niklaas should be chosen as a tourist destination?
- Which type of communication and promotion?
- Which organizational and consultation structure is appropriate?
-
which type of actions and tourist-recreational projects are required for this purpose?
When answering these questions, following principles should be taken into consideration: sustainability, broad social consensus, cooperation and feasibility.
